Symmetry: Art and Science | 12th SIS-Symmetry Congress

The International Society for the Interdisciplinary Study of Symmetry (SIS-Symmetry, for short) is a non-profit organization established in 1989 and registered in Budapest that organizes several initiatives aimed at fostering research on the concepts of symmetry, asymmetry, and dissymmetry and its dissemination through periodic publications, discussion forums, interim conferences and a triennial congress, that SIS-Symmetry co-organizes in cooperation with institutions of different countries.

The Symmetry Art and Science | SIS-Symmetry Congress brings together dozens of artists, educators, researchers, scientists, and students with a shared enthusiasm for the concept of symmetry in its broader sense, where participants discuss their researches, thoughts and experiments from standpoints as multidisciplinary, diverse and fruitful as arts, architecture, chemistry, computer science, crystallography, design, engineering, mathematics, social sciences, technology and related fields of knowledge.

The first edition of the SIS-Symmetry Congress took place in Budapest (Hungary), and since then, it was held in Hiroshima (Japan); Washington DC (United States of America); Haifa (Israel); Sydney (Australia); Tihany (Hungary); Buenos Aires (Argentina); Gmünd (Austria); Crete (Greece); Adelaide (Australia) and Kanazawa (Japan).

The 12th edition will take place in the city of Porto (Portugal) between the 11th and the 16th of July, 2022 and will be co-organized by SIS-Symmetry and the Centre for Studies in Architecture and Urbanism (CEAU) of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto, Portugal (FAUP).
